Hello and welcome to this course on Piping Systems.
\nDifferent process fluids require different types of piping system for their safe containment and transfer.
\nThe selection of the correct piping system and components is critical to ensure this safety requirement.
\nIt is vital that we know what the process is and what product or service it is providing. We must know the nature of the conveyed fluid and how its properties are affected by environmental and process changes.<\/p>\n
In this course we look at pipe work systems for water, air, steam, fuel oil, chemicals and fire protection.
\nOver the course of 8 lessons we will examine these different types of piping system.
\nWe will look to:
\n\u2022 Explain the requirement to select the correct type of piping material for chemical piping systems.
\n\u2022 Identify and describe acids commonly used in commercial processes and what type of pipe would be suitable for this application.
\n\u2022 Identify caustics commonly used in commercial processes and the considerations for selecting piping materials.<\/p>\n
\u2022 Describe a typical compressed air piping system and the safety guidelines that apply when work is being carried out.
\n\u2022 Describe a typical fuel oil piping system and specify considerations for selection of materials for fuel oil piping systems.
\n\u2022 Describe a typical steam piping system and explain how the properties of steam influence the type of piping material to be selected.
\n\u2022 Identify the different types of water piping systems and describe considerations for selecting piping materials.
\n\u2022 Describe fire sprinkler systems and their commercial and industrial applications.
\n\u2022 Distinguish between the following types of fire sprinkler systems and their various applications \u2022 wet pipe \u2022 dry pipe \u2022 deluge water spray \u2022 ESFR \u2022 dry chemical \u2022 wet and dry riser \u2022 foam water
\n\u2022 Classify the various types of valves and components used in fire sprinkler systems.
\n\u2022 Explain the requirement for standard identification system on pipe.<\/p>\n
