Soil provides many functions for humankind. It provides food for us to eat and purifies our water systems. It acts as a storage for atmospheric carbon and a home for biodiversity. It provides materials for building construction and a resource amenity enhancing physical and mental well-being.
Soil is obviously a very important resource for humankind. Yet this resource is finite. When soil is removed, damaged or contaminated, it can take many, many years to recover.

What happens when we don’t look after soil?

In this training course learners are provided with knowledge to be able to understand the fundamentals of soil preservation.

• Understand the different types of soil contaminants and their sources
• Understand the EU soil strategy and types of soil remedial measures

• Lesson 3: Soil – the impact of agriculture and food activities
• Lesson 4: Soil- the impact of industrial activities
