Introduction
Hello and welcome to this training course on Forest Function Management.
The health and well being of humankind is inextricably linked to the health of our woodlands and forests.
Forest products are a vital part of our daily lives in more ways than we can imagine, from obvious paper and wood products, to the bioproducts used in medicines, cosmetics, new materials and foods.
Forest ecosystems provide habitats for plants and animals and protect the loss of biodiversity.
Forests ensure that land is protected from erosion and provide a social and recreational outlet.
Forests capture the carbon in the atmosphere and protect us from the effects of climate change.
Forests truly have many incredible functions.
How then can we best manage these functions in a sustainable manner
In this training course learners are provided with knowledge to be able to manage the forest functions.
On completion of this training course, you will be able to:
• Understand the types and uses of forest biomass
• Understand the elements of wood used in developing bioproducts
• Understand what forest ecosystems are and their functions
• Appreciate the organisms in the ecosystem
• Appreciate the importance of forests for carbon capture
• Identify factors that affect carbon sequestration
• Understand the current challenges facing European forests
• Identify the criteria for sustainable forest management
Who is this course for?
This course is ideal for those who are looking to study the requirements for implementing sustainable forest management
This course is also appropriate for those who work with forests and are looking to implement forest management plans.
The course is divided into 4 lessons:
• Lesson 1: Forestry based bioeconomy
• Lesson 2: Carbon Capture
• Lesson 3: Forest ecosystems and their management
• Lesson 4: Forestry bioproducts
• Lesson 5: Sustainable forest/woodland management
On successful completion of this course all students will be awarded a Certificate of
Completion. This certificate confirms you have completed all the video lessons for
every module and fully met all the requirements of the course.
To achieve this award all the assessment quizzes for each lesson must be passed. The pass grade for each quiz is 80%.You can retake lesson quizzes as often as you like.
The Assessment Method
There’s a quiz at the end of each lesson to test your understanding of the material. To successfully complete this course, you must pass the quiz for each lesson. Once all the lessons have been completed, you can then download and print the People & Process completion certificate.
So, let’s get started! In the next lesson entitled “Forestry based bioeconomy” we will look at the uses of forest biomass.
